Futuristic, Flat Body Design
The flat body and compact size of the DMC-FP3 allow it to fit nicely into a small handbag. Built of high-quality aluminum, the DMC-FP3 also brings a wide range of colors to the series. Choose from 4 colors (Silver, Black, Red, Blue).The new lens cover both protects the lens from scratches or dusts and serves as the camera's power switch, making it fast and easy to slip the camera out of a pocket or a bag and turn on the power. Touch Screen Operation
The newly adopted static sensor type 3.0-inch touch-screen LCD on the DMC-FP3 gives you an easy, intuitive control thanks to a hybrid operation combined with the 4 major operation buttons. Touch operation is free and smooth either in recording or playing back images.
Once you compose the flame, all you have to do is touch the area you wish to focus on before pressing the shutter button halfway.
You can drag the image across the screen with a finger to browse the collection of photos as you flip over the pages of the book.
4x Optical Zoom / Up to 8.4x Extra Optical Zoom
The DMC-FP3 is equipped with a 4x optical zoom lens (35mm camera equivalent: 35-140mm). The Extra Optical Zoom function*1 uses the center part of the CCD to extend this 4x zoom ratio to powerful 8.4x zoom (35mm camera equivalent: 295mm) at a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. Adding the Extra Optical Zoom to the 4x digital zoom*2 extends the total zooming power to a maximum of 33.8x.
*1 At a resolution of 3-megapixel or less. In the DMC-FP3, image resolution is kept at its maximum size to the optical tele-end even if the Extra Optical Zoom is ON.

Sonic Speed AF
The Sonic Speed AF system in the DMC-FP3 has a maximum speed of approx. 0.33 second for auto focusing*. It includes numerous re-engineering enhancements, including a higher-speed actuator, optimized algorithms and parallel software processing. The result is fast and accurate AF performance. You can quickly get moving subjects in focus, such as when you're shooting sports scenes.

Venus Engine IV
The energy-saving Venus Engine IV image-processing engine and the efficient, rechargeable lithium-ion battery which has been slimmed down to fit into thinner camera bodies work together to extend the shooting time of the DMC-FP3. This lets users take approx. 300 shots on a single battery charge*.

Intelligent Auto Mode This mode not only helps eliminate blurring from hand-shake or subject movement, it also helps you capture perfect portraits by detecting the face and selecting the focus, exposure and Scene mode that get the best results. And it's all automatic.
Venus Engine IV In the Venus Engine™ LSI, we improved diagonal resolution by 50% over earlier models by extracting luminance signals from all of the pixels — red, green and blue. And the Venus Engine™ IV even goes a step further by adding the luminance signal from the green pixels in areas with horizontal or vertical lines. We have raised horizontal or vertical resolution by about 10%. Images are rendered in fine detail and without visible colour bleeding.
MEGA O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabilizer)– taking hand-shake out of the picture Jitter from shaky hands is far and away the biggest single cause of blurry shots. LUMIX cameras help solve this problem with an advanced optical image stabilizing system that we call MEGA O.I.S. This system uses built-in gyrosensors to detect even tiny camera movement and then shifts a lens in the opposite direction to compensate. The system is completely optical — it does not affect the CCD or image processing — so you get sharp, clear images without deterioration. It lets you shoot at shutter speeds up to three steps* slower than what you could use without it. It helps achieve high-quality images in a wide range of shooting conditions such as telephoto, macro or low illumination.
Intelligent ISO Control - detects movement, prevents blurring LUMIX is the world's first1 camera that detects when a subject is moving and acts to prevent motion blur.
With most cameras, if a subject moves while you're shooting, you're liable to end up with a blurry photo. Not with LUMIX. Select new LUMIX models feature Intelligent ISO Control, which utilizes subject-motion detection circuitry inside the Venus Engine III image processor to automatically adjust the ISO setting to a preset 400, 800, or 1250 maximum. The higher ISO level lets the camera shoot at a higher shutter speed, preventing motion blur. If the subject is not moving, the ISO setting remains as-is and you capture a beautiful, natural-looking image with minimal noise.
Face Detection The face detection function detects faces anywhere in the frame and automatically chooses the optimal focus and exposure. You can take clear, beautiful portrait shots easily. It detects up to 15 faces in a photo, and automatically readjusts the settings if their positions change. In iA mode, the quick AF function automatically begins focusing without having to press the shutter button halfway, so the shooting process is smooth and easy.
Scene Detection - Intelligent scene selector When the camera is iA mode, the Intelligent scene selector senses the ambient conditions and automatically selects either Scenery, Portrait, Macro, Night portrait or Night scenery mode accordingly. It makes several other advanced image settings too, so you're assured of getting beautiful results every time you shoot, no matter what the scene or subject. With the Intelligent scene selector doing all the complicated work for you, you'll find photography easier than ever to enjoy.
HD Movie Recording (1,280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps in Motion JPEG Format) The DMC-FP3 can record motion images in high-definition (1,280 x 720 pixels at 30 fps in Motion JPEG format). The pixel mixed readout method enables bright motion-image recording even in low-light settings. The DMC-FP3 can also record full-size motion images in WVGA (848 x 480 pixels at 30 fps) or standard motion images in VGA (640 x 480 pixels at 30 fps) and QVGA (320 x 240 pixels at 30 fps).
